Once you have assigned all the jobs to a specific truck for a given day, you have the option to optimize the route inside Tank Track to save time and money.
To get to the routing page, click the truck name on the Day Schedule.
The routing page displays all the assigned appointments on the left and gives you access to Google Maps right inside Tank Track.
The only rose colored pin on the map shows the location of your headquarters, where it is assumed your trucks begin and end each day.
The green pins show the location of the facilities or farm fields at which you are authorized to deliver waste.
The blue pins show the locations of the jobs for the day.
Google Maps provides an estimate of the total route distance as shown.
Your task now is to look at the map and consider your truck capacity, tank sizes, and waste sites.
Looking at the first column once again, you can see your truck capacity as well as the tank sizes for each appointment.
Tank Track uses this information to predict when each truck needs to be emptied and adds a red exclamation point to suggest that you add a waste stop before proceeding.
After looking at the map to decide which changes to make, drag and drop the appointments in the first column to optimize the route.
A good strategy is to fill your truck up on the way to a dump site. In this example, the truck can hold three jobs.
The plan is to pick up appointments located at points B, D, and E and then empty the truck at the waste site located at point 4.
To sort the order, drag the B job into the A slot, the D job into the B slot, and the E job into the C slot.
Note that every time you change the schedule, the estimated route length updates immediately so you can see the progress you are making.
When you need to add a waste stop, go to the lower left corner and drag and drop your list of waste sites onto the schedule and then select your preferred site, as shown.
Rearrange your jobs and add waste sites until you have optimized the route….
You can return to the Day Schedule any time using the provided shortcut.
Every schedule change you make on the routing page is automatically reproduced on the Day Schedule …. and the Week Schedule.
